Tianjin Light Industry Vocational Technical College (TLIVTC) was established in January 2001, which is a state-owned full-time general institution of higher education. Situated at Tianjin Haihe Education Park, near the coast of Bohai, Tianjin Light Industry Vocational Technical College covers an area of 143 acres, with a gross floor area of 190,000 square meters and more than 10,000 students. It offers 33 higher vocational education diploma programs and 2 joint-cultivating skill-orientated undergraduate programs. The college has three top specialties in China, namely Mold Design and Manufacturing, Photovoltaic Power Generation Technology and Application, and E-commerce; five leading specialties in China, namely Computer Network Technology, Clothing Design and Techniques, Computer Numerical Control Equipment Application and Maintenance, Environmental Art Design, and Marketing; and featured specialties such as Industrial Robot Technology, Cultural Relic Restoration and Protection, and Credit Management. In recent years, the employment rate of graduates from the college is higher than 97%. Graduates of Tianjin Light Industry Vocational Technical College show virtue, abilities, as well as exquisite skills, which have won wide praise from employers. 

The college courageously innovates and practices in insisting on the industry- education integration and college-enterprise cooperation for cultivating high-quality skilled talents, actively serving the economic and social development. TLIVTC builds Skilled Talents Reserve Center, Technology and Product Promotion Center, Collaborative Innovation Center and Staff Training Center with enterprises. The college has co-built 11 on-campus training centers with world-famous or industry-leading enterprises such as GF Machining Solution of Switzerland, Carl Zeiss of Germany, Gamesa of Spain, Mitsubishi Elevator, and Yingli of China. It also has 165 practice bases off campus. The college has jointly built the first intelligent manufacturing production line of precision mold in Chinese higher vocational colleges with enterprises and set up a collaborative innovation center. Approved by the Ministry of Education, the college is a construction unit of vocational education cooperation project in the field of industrial robot and a construction unit of modern apprenticeship pilot project. The college has led the establishment of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Mould Modern Vocational Education Group and the National New Energy Specialty Co-construction and Co-sharing Alliance. It is also a vice president unit of the Vocational Education Group for National Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone. 

Since 2008, the college has hosted events of Chinese National Vocational Students Skills Competition for 12 consecutive years, presided over the construction of the National New Energy Teaching Resource Library, and won 13 national and municipal teaching achievement awards. The college has been playing an increasingly leading and exemplary role in higher vocational colleges. The college has incorporated innovation and entrepreneurship education into teaching, held innovation and entrepreneurship competition, established TLIVTC Maker Space, built an innovation and entrepreneurship service platform for Tianjin vocational colleges, and provided assistance for the innovation and entrepreneurship of vocational college students. On the basis of National Scholarship, Tianjin Municipal People's Government Scholarship, National Scholarship for Encouragement and National Grants, there are also scholarship and grant provided by the college and seven well-known enterprise scholarships, such as and German Phoenix Scholarship, LG Scholarship, Swiss GF Scholarship and Yingli Scholarship. The average annual amount of all these grants and scholarships is more than 8 million Yuan.

The college has made remarkable achievements. It is a National Excellent Demonstrative Key Higher Vocational College, High-quality Vocational College, Tianjin "World Advanced Vocational Colleges" Construction Project Unit, Tianjin Advanced Vocational Education Unit, Chinese National Demonstration Vocational College in Employment Competitiveness, and National Excellent Adult Continuing Education Institute. At the same time, it is also a chairman unit of Vocational Education Committee of China Mold Industry Association, a vice chairman unit of National Light Industry Vocational Education Steering Committee, and a vice chairman unit of Tianjin Mold Industry Association. It is one of the first batches of unit in Tianjin to rank among the Chinese Higher Vocational College Service Contribution Top 50. In December 2019, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance issued a document, announcing the college a first round construction unit of "high level vocational colleges and majors with Chinese characteristics construction plan". During the“13th Five-Year Plan” period, the college has deeply promoted industry-education integration and made efforts to better fit and serve the needs of industries and enterprises as well as regional economy. The college has realized innovative development in an all-around manner.
