University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) is situated in Chengdu. UESTC was founded by the merging of the electrical engineering departments of 3 top engineering universities in China in 1956. It became one of the national key universities in 1960. It was selected as one of the national "Project 211" (Top 100) universities in 1997 and the national "Project 985" (Top 39) universities in 2001. In 2017, the University was selected as one of "Double First-Class" universities (Top 36 in China).
UESTC is a key multidisciplinary university with electronic science and technology as its nucleus, and engineering as its major emphasis. Its ability to harmoniously integrate the studies of science, engineering, management, medicine and liberal arts, predisposes it to emerge as a top-tier research-intensive university.
UESTC has more than 3,800 staff, including 2,390 faculty members and 630 professors.
There are over 39,800 full-time students on campus, including 19,800 undergraduates, 17,000 master students and 3,000 Ph.D. candidates.
UESTC began to recruit international students since 2010, there are more than 1,600 international students from over 100 countries and regions at present.
UESTC has three campuses: Qingshuihe, Shahe and Jiulidi, covering an area of more than 676 acres. It has a modern digital library with rich collection and plenty of modern sports venues with complete facilities.
In the fourth round of national first-class discipline evaluation, four disciplines of UESTC were rated as A level, including electronic science and technology and information and communication engineering as A+ level, computer science and technology as A level, and optical engineering as A- level.
According to the latest Global Ranking by Essential Science Indicators (ESI), 9 of our disciplines are ranked among the top 1%, namely, Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Neuroscience & Behaviour, Biology & Biochemistry, Clinical Medicine, with the first two being ranked amongst the top 1‰.
